Research

Commitment to osteoarthritis research is crucial to improve the quality of life of people who suffer from this disease and to develop more effective and personalized treatments for each patient.

According to the EPISER 2016 study carried out by the Spanish Society of Rheumatology, osteoarthritis in Spain affects more than 7 million people, with a prevalence of osteoarthritis in one or more locations in the population over 40 years of 29.35%.

By specific locations, the prevalence of lumbar osteoarthritis is 15.52%, knee osteoarthritis 13.83%, cervical osteoarthritis 10.10%, hand osteoarthritis 7.73% and osteoarthritis hip of 5.13%.

Osteoarthritis is a disease that for many people is very limiting, and that currently has no cure or highly effective treatment that can stop its evolution.

Commitment to osteoarthritis research is crucial to improve the quality of life of people who suffer from this disease and to develop more effective and personalized treatments for each patient.

Some of the latest advances in osteoarthritis research include:

  • Gene therapy: Gene therapy is a technique that allows the modification of the genetic material of cells to treat diseases. In the case of osteoarthritis, studies are being carried out to develop gene therapies that can prevent or delay the progression of the disease.
  • Cell Therapy: Cell therapy involves the use of cells to treat disease. In osteoarthritis, stem cells are being investigated to develop treatments that can regenerate damaged cartilage.
  • Biological Therapies: Biological therapies are treatments that use proteins, antibodies, nano-antibodies, and other molecules produced to treat disease. In osteoarthritis, biological therapies are being developed that can block inflammation and cartilage degradation, improving pain.

We are currently conducting clinical trials for knee osteoarthritis with some of these innovative molecules and the deadlines are still open for new patients.
